Yesterdays 3-1 victory over Mexican side Atlante earned Villa a Semi Final place tomorrow against Porto with the winners facing either Real Madrid or Juventus in Sundays final. The game started very poorly with Villa looking clueless. Curtis Davies was having a howler at the back and capped it off with a well taken own goal gifting the Mexican side the lead. At the time Stiliyan Petrov was off the field receiving treatment and it was soon clear he couldn't continue due to a suspected shoulder dislocation. Nigel Reo Coker took over the captaincy and young winger Marc Albrighton replaced the Bulgarian. An angry Martin O'Neill was then sent to the stands for abusing the 4th official before the young lad Albrighton provided the spark Villa had been sorely lacking. The 19 year old cooly converted after a Carew header was saved to bring Villa level before providing a clinical cross for Young to secure the needed 3rd goal after Carew added the second.

Tomorrows game in Malaga kicks off at 4:30pm ET and will once again be shown live across the US on GOL TV. For those in New York myself and a few others will be diving into Nevada Smiths to catch the second half and a couple of pints following work (or the whole game for those who can get out of work early). Should we manage to progress Sundays Final will once again kick off at 4:30 and will most likely be carried once again by GOL TV.
In other news thanks to Drew for the heads up on our opening day clash with Wigan. The game will be shown live at 10am ET on Fox Soccer Channel a nice bonus as I was doubtful the fixture would be shown at all. So grab your Claret and Blue and bounce down to your local footy bar and represent Villa in whatever corner of the US you occupy. Hopefully the manager can bring in some reinforcements between now and then.
Cheers and Up the Villa.
