Home to Chelsea, Sunday @ 11:00am

Villa are at home this Sunday for an 11:00am kickoff with league leaders Chelsea, following a 2-1 win over Fulham last Saturday, a 5-0 Carling Cup win over Wrexham in mid-week, and the transfer signings of Zat Knight and Curtis Davies (on loan from West Brom). No word yet on whether the two new defenders will play, but hopefully Villa can cap off an eventful week with a good result. (We also heard this week that Ashley Young will join Gareth Barry on the England squad for upcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers against Israel and Russia.)

See you at Nevada Smiths!

Villa Home to Fulham

Villa return home for a 10:00am clash with old friend Steven Davis and his new club Fulham. After a so-so start to the season, it's vital that Villa pick up 3 points in this, a home game against a very beatable opponent. Game to be shown at Nevada Smiths. See you all there!

Villa away to Newcastle

It's the battle of two teams hoping to sneak into Europe this season. Villa will put out a fully fit squad albeit with the exception of the still recovering Sorensen and a doubt over Taylors fitness. This could lead to a debut for loanee Scott Carson who we recently borrowed from Liverpool. Expect a more free flowing game than last weekend where both team bottlenecked in midfield, this could work in Villa's favour with the pace of both Gabby and Young a threat to the Newcastle defence.
Injuries abound on the Newcastle side with no Duff, Given, Barton or Babayaro. Possible danger to the Villa defence comes in the form of one time Villa player James Milner especially if he switches out to the left, could be more than a handful for Gardner.
We hope to see more of Big John Carew this week as he recovers from illness last timeout. An away draw would be a good result but I wouldn't be surprised if Villa put last weeks performance behind them and pulled out a win. Afterall our performances on the road under Martin O'Neill have been pretty good.

Kick off a little after mid-day Saturday, NY Villans will be in Nevada Smiths as always.

Villans Play at Giants Stadium

On Sunday, August 12th, the New York Villans played in the Supporters Shield Tournament at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, sponsored by the New York Red Bulls of MLS. This 6-a-side tournament, played on the field at Giants Stadium, matches up supporters club sides from around the tri-state area.

Despite a strong start, a game Villans side crashed out in the semi-finals, falling 3-2 to a group of Toronto FC supporters who were in town for TFC's match with the Red Bulls later that day.

But a good time was had by all, as we tailgated in the stadium parking lot and watched the Red Bulls defeat Toronto FC 3-0 later that afternoon, which included a goal from former Villa Park favorite Juan Pablo Angel. To top it all off, we had the pleasure of meeting JPA before the match. He was very gracious and kindly posed for photos with us.

The New York Villans would especially like to thank Mike Quarino of the New York Red Bulls for organizing and inviting us to the event, and especially for arranging the meeting with JPA. We also thank all the players (pictured below), our great supporters, and everyone who helped out with food and transportation. It was an all-around great day that none of us will soon forget!
